Frequently Asked Questions

When will I get better and how many treatments do I need?

Typically patients come in for weekly treatments and we usually see significant changes within 6 visits. Sometimes it takes longer if the problem has been going on for a long time. Sometimes we get faster results with acute situations. More important than the number 6 is that we want to see two consecutive weeks of sustained symptom relief before spacing visits out.

What should I expect at my first visit?

The initial consultation takes approximately one hour and includes a patient intake, diagnosis, treatment plan, and an acupuncture treatment. Emphasis is on learning about the nature of your health problem, patient education, and prognosis.

Does acupuncture hurt?

The Japanese acupuncture style we practice uses the finest needles available. Most patients are surprised to find they feel little to nothing during needle insertion. You may feel a mild sensation of heaviness, warmth, or tingling — this is a sign the treatment is working. Many patients fall asleep during treatment.

Do you accept insurance?

We no longer accept any health insurance plans. We do accept Flex Spending Plans (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA). Payment methods accepted include cash, check, credit card, FSA/HSA, and various cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin & Ether).

What is your cancellation policy?

Please notify us immediately if you are unable to make an appointment as a courtesy to the office staff and other patients. There will be no charge if 24 hours notice is given; otherwise, the full cost of an office visit may be charged.

Do you prescribe Chinese herbs?

When appropriate, we may recommend Chinese herbal formulas to complement your acupuncture treatments. All of our herbs are GMP certified, sulfur-free, and tested for contaminants. The average cost for herb pills is about $20/week; custom powder formulas range from $25–$40/week.
