IVF & Fertility Acupuncture Treatment in Nashville, Franklin & Brentwood

Congratulations! You've made the decision to embark on the IVF (in vitro fertilization) journey. We're here to help support that process and increase your chance of a successful implantation and healthy childbirth.

There are multiple studies on acupuncture and its effectiveness in improving IVF outcomes. We studied and worked with the MD and acupuncturist that wrote the first book on the subject, Acupuncture & IVF: Increase IVF Success by 40%-60%.

We recommend beginning acupuncture approximately three months before attempting IVF because this is a full egg cycle. Acupuncture improves egg quality as well as quantity. The hormones given during IVF or any ART (assisted reproductive technology) are designed to increase the number of eggs but it will not improve egg quality.
Acupuncture helps smooth hormonal fluctuations, which can then improve egg quality.

Here is a partial list of the benefits of fertility and IVF acupuncture:
  • Improve the function of the ovaries to produce higher quality eggs
  • Regulate menstrual cycles
  • Regulate the hormones to produce a larger number of follicles
  • Increase blood flow to the uterus and increase the thickness of the uterine lining
  • Regulate the immune system
  • Increase chance of conceiving
  • Enhance the chances of successful implantation
  • Decrease chance of miscarriage
  • Improve quality of sleep and increase energy

Preparing For IVF/IUI Cycle
We recommend receiving IVF acupuncture one time per week, starting three months prior to your IVF/IUI cycle as this is a full egg development cycle. If this is not possible, we still see good results with acupuncture treatment while you are in the IVF cycle, and we will often increase frequency of visits. Depending on your medical history, treatment frequency can vary. After your initial consultation we will create a tailored treatment plan for you.

Acupuncture During an IVF/IUI Cycle
Please allow for one visit per week during this time. If you have not received acupuncture prior to the IVF/IUI cycle, sometimes we recommend two visits per week but that is not common.

Acupuncture On The Day of Egg Retrieval
Acupuncture prior to egg retrieval helps to relax the cervix and increase blood flow to the uterus. Ideally we would like to see you at 1-2 days prior to egg retrieval.

Acupuncture After Egg Retrieval

Acupuncture after egg retrieval can help the body heal from any damage to the uterus and minimize bloating and cramps. The retrieval can feel invasive and acupuncture helps speed recovery and prepare the uterus for implantation.

If you are doing a fresh egg transfer, acupuncture will also help create a calm environment for transfer of the embryo.

Acupuncture On The Day of Embryo Transfer

We recommend acupuncture pre and post embryo transfer to improve implantation. A visit about 1-2 days prior is helpful. Acupuncture treatments at the time of embryo transfer help to promote uterine blood flow, enhance positive implantation, prevent uterine contractions, reduce overall stress, promote relaxation and increase pregnancy success rate.

Acupuncture After Embryo Transfer

Our focus is to create the optimal environment for you and your baby. Typical follow up visits would be one visit per week during the first trimester. Second and third trimester visits are typically every two weeks.

Acupuncture is not only effective for aiding fertility but also carrying a baby to term. We have found that some women have problems becoming pregnant while others have problems retaining the fetus. Some women cannot do either. If there are non-structural impediments to fertility, Traditional Chinese Medicine improve fertility.
